When I'm 64....

Just watched a programme on BBC1 about getting old. Called Should I worry about....? Presented by Richard Hammond.
"Richard Hammond examines the perils of ageing in a world obsessed with trying to stay young. Accompanied by his mother, he talks to experts about getting older and conducts experiments in a bid to find out what the future holds "

it got me thinking - What will it be like to be old? Its the same kind of thoughts I get when I spend time with my Grandad, he's 86 and I love spending time with him listening to the stories and talking about old times and "how things have changed..." His wisdom and experience of life is great to hear about.

When I was younger, spending longer periods of time talking to my grandad got boring - He didn't understand what it was like to be a kid in the 80's (he wouldn't let me watch the A-Team) whenever I was at his house regardless of what was on the telly he would switch over at 6pm, turn the volume up to a crazy volume ready for the news! very annoying for a little kid!
it wasn't till I got a little older and realised that he had 'been there and done that' that I really started to listen to the stuff he had to say.

I hope that when I am old I can bore my little grandkids and hopefully impart some wise words to the older ones...

thinking of growing old makes me realise that there is still a stack of potential in the years that are ahead of me, even though I'm close to my quarter century - compared to my grandad I'm still just a kid who can make mistakes, go round in circles and start all over if needs be!

I thank God for the foundation he has built for me - given me a family that loves me. I wife that I can adore, cherish, love and support. and friends to support, encourage and challenge me.
I hope I don't waste the life I've been given!

Roll on the bus fare, SAGA holidays and my pension
